A postdoc/scientific assistant position (f/m/d) is offered in the Research Group „General Neurophysiology“ (Prof. Dr. Oliver Kann) at the Institute of Physiology and Pathophysiology, University of Heidelberg.
The group focuses on (i) mitochondria and energy metabolism during neuronal activity, and (ii) the impact of activated microglia (brain macrophages) on neuronal activity and neurodegeneration (Hollnagel et al., iScience, 2020; Schneider et al., J Cereb Blood Flow Metab, 2019; Ta et al., Proc Natl Acad Sci USA, 2019 etc.). The experimental studies deal with neuronal activity patterns (gamma oscillations etc.) that are related to perception, attention and memory. The group is interdisciplinary and offers an intensive scientific atmosphere with a broad spectrum of established methods (electrophysiology, fluorescence imaging, oxymetry, brain slice preparations etc.).
Applicants should have a methodological background in electrophysiology, live-cell fluorescence imaging and/or ‚real-time metabolism‘ in brain tissue (slices and/or in vivo). The future position holder will carry out an own research project within one of the two research focuses of the group and apply for third-party funding. The position is associated with regular teaching in Physiology (4 hours per week) as well as experimental supervision of MD/PhD students. The future positon holder should seek for a postdoctoral lecture qualification (habilitation) in Physiology.
The ideal applicant has an MD and/or PhD degree, with a postdoc in Neuroscience. The scientific qualification should be documented with publications (peer-review) in respected international journals. Teaching experience is advantageous. The position is open from 01 October 2020. The initial contract will be for 24 months (salary according to TV-L, E13); extension of the contract is possible.
Please, send your application (including full CV, letter of motivation, short research outline, copies of exam certificates, contact details of two scientists for references) until 15 August 2020 to:
Prof. Dr. Oliver Kann, Institut für Physiologie und Pathophysiologie, Im Neuenheimer Feld 326, D-69120 Heidelberg; E-Mail: oliver.kann@physiologie.uni-heidelberg.de
