The International Graduate School THEME Medical Neuroscience was established in 2012 as an evolution of the existing graduate program, ‚Theoretical and Experimental Medicine‘ (THEME), within the Medical Faculty. Initially conceived as a specialized graduate school, it was integrated into the Bonn International Graduate Schools (BIGS) at the University of Bonn in 2015. Consequently, its name was changed to the ‚Bonn International Graduate School of Neuroscience‘ (BIGS Neuroscience).
At BIGS Neuroscience, our mission is to attract exceptional doctoral candidates from around the globe and provide them with the resources, training, and guidance necessary to excel as leading neuroscientists.
We pride ourselves on offering students unparalleled research facilities within an esteemed academic environment, fostering collaborations with international research partners. Leveraging the extensive and diverse expertise of our faculty members, BIGS Neuroscience equips PhD candidates with cutting-edge neuroscientific methodologies and instills in them a depth of knowledge that is second to none.
Through the collective wealth of experience among our faculty, doctoral students gain a comprehensive understanding of neuroscience and are exposed to the latest advancements in research methodologies.
It is worth noting that 50% of our neuroscientists hail from diverse international backgrounds, including nations such as China, Iran, Canada, Russia, India, Uruguay, Mexico, and Cameroon. Furthermore, we are proud to report that 45% of our neuroscientists are women, reflecting our commitment to diversity and inclusivity in academia.
