Our mission
To recruit outstanding doctoral students from all over the world and to give them the opportunity, training and support to develop into highly successful neuroscientists.

BIGS Neuroscience offers students outstanding research conditions in an excellent research environment and access to international research partnerships. Through the comprehensive and diverse expertise of the faculty members of BIGS Neurosciences, we train PhD students in novel neuroscientific techniques and provide them with exceptional knowledge.

Through the wide-ranging and diverse expertise of the faculty members of BIGS Neurosciences, doctoral students are provided with comprehensive neuroscientific knowledge and the opportunity to learn the latest, innovative  research techniques.

50% of BIGS neuroscientists come from abroad, including non-European countries such as China, Iran, Canada, Russia, India, Uruguay, Mexico and Cameroon. 45% of BIGS neuroscientists are women.

History
The International Graduate School THEME Medical Neuroscience emerged in 2012 from the already established graduate program ´Theoretical and Experimental Medicine´ (THEME) of the Medical Faculty as a thematically focused graduate school. In 2015 the Graduate School became part of the Bonn International Graduate Schools (BIGS) at the University of Bonn and was renamed ´Bonn International Graduate School of Neuroscience´ (BIGS Neuroscience).
