Neural Regeneration
In the central nervous system (CNS) innate immunity is involved in degeneration, but also closely associated with regeneration. Striking examples are disorders as CNS autoimmune diseases, CNS infections, traumatic CNS injuries and neurodegenerative diseases. The Neural Regeneration Group is studying the involvement of microglia in neurodegeneration as well as neuroprotection and regeneration. Furthermore microglia will be generated from embryonic and human induced pluripotent stem cells to study neuroinflammatory disease processes.
