Research Focus
Our research group is interested in the neural circuit mechanisms mediating adaptive learning and state-dependent decision-making in health and disease. To understand how neuronal networks integrate internal states with environmental cues to gate adequate behavioral output, we comprehensively map the functional diversity of defined cell types – ranging from the precise connectivity and molecular profiles of individual neurons to the activity patterns of large neuronal populations during a variety of behavioral tasks. To this end, we combine state-of-the-art circuit neuroscience tools such as in vivo deep-brain calcium imaging in behaving mice with opto- and pharmacogenetics, anatomical tracings as well as electrophysiological, molecular and histological techniques.
