Research Interests

Our group studies two questions that are poorly understood but critically important for neurodegenerative diseases: Why do they target specific brain regions and leave others relatively unaffected and what role does poor sleep hygiene have in neurodegenerative diseases? To investigate these questions we use sophisticated analyses of mouse models, we are continuing to develop expertise in other technologies including analyses of protein and RNA localization in brains, video and electroencephalographic recordings in untethered mice to study sleep, and magnetic resonance imaging to identify brain regions in the earliest stages of disease, prior to structural changes.

Techniques

Genome engineering of mice, followed by analyses of behavior, magnetic resonance imaging, and electroencephalography.
